My story is familiar enough to be a little sing-song. I taught high school English, raised a child and decided that I needed a career I could embrace without losing touch with my other responsibilities. Working initially with Flexible Assistants, I discovered that there was an option other than traditional offices and 'unemployment' as some people would label my work at home.

I was, at one point, called a stay-at-home-mom/parent, but that term barely describes the effort I put into that life's work. I prefer Domestic Goddess. I believe that honoring the transition between stages of life is essential to the changing nature of our world where all people have worth and are deserving of respect.

People choose to work in the home, out of the home, in coffee shops, in their own businesses, or in someone else's office for any number of reasons. SAHPs struggle leaping from home back into the office chair and I was no different, but I used my resources (education, desire to learn, friends and IT geeks) to hone and update my skills. At first I used the skills at home by increasing our financial acumen and improving communication among my family members, but soon the desire to help more people and turn my skills into a business became strong enough that I founded WillowTree Virtual Assistants.

I would like to see my company build a framework for these in-between populations of the workforce to carve their own personal reality by building skills, confidence, and success for themselves and our clients.
